The game mechanics thing is true but only to an extent.  I suggest giving a listen to Roll of Law that I linked to above.  He has extensive videos on this subject and he is a lifelong gamer.  There are some potentially unsafe practices that could get you swatted, even with game mechanics.  One way is if you use terms that are used in WotC products such as AC, Difficulty Class, Saving Throw, etc.  That can most definitely get you swatted.  Also, anything that touches upon their specific lore, such as a Beholder in your game or a mention of a Chromatic Dragon, etc.

I seriously doubt that even if Wiz can de-authorize OGL1a and prevent it's use despite section 9, which actual lawyers say they can't, that Jeff will start publishing under an entirely different and incompatible ruleset.
You'd be the only one happy with it if he did.

Several lawyers believe WotC absolutely could win in court.  Not only do they have more money than anyone else to litigate this till their competition runs out of money, but they also had the word "authorize" in the original OGL language.  Due to that loophole, they are able to claim they no longer authorize OGL 1.0 and that the new OGL 2.0 now replaces it, due to it no longer being authorized any longer.  You only had the right to use it as long as it was authorized by WotC.  It would be up to the court to decide whether this argument was legit enough or not but some lawyers claimed they could definitely see a path to that being a winning argument in a court of law, especially with Hasbro's cash behind them.

Here is a lawyer and personal friend/frequent guest guest of Rekieta Law, who is also a gamer discussing all this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_dVH-0Yf8o&ab_channel=RollofLaw

Not asking to change the main system per sé, I was thinking it would be cool to have the option of the alt system as an option.  Barbarians of Lemuria is the best sword & sorcery ruleset in existence.

I'd love to translate Hyperborea to Barbarians of Lemuria myself, if Jeffrey would allow me.  Heck, I know the creator of BoL, Simon Washbourne, and he would have no issues with it.  In fact, he'd love it!

Still no idea what Hyperborea's plans are? I am nervous about all this.

It is pretty clear now all through the hobby that WotC is planning to also tank the previous OGL 1.0 and with it, possibly all the OGL products currently available.  Do we think this will have an impact on Hyperborea and if so, does that possibly mean Jeffrey will consider a translation/version of Hyperborea in my favorite sword & sorcery system of all time, Barbarians of Lemuria?

Thanks!

I went through the lore when I got 2e but that was a long time back.  I am getting ready to go through the lore again in the 3e PDFs.

Feel free to discuss it here and we and we can wax on about what we think are the cool aspects and such.

Do you receive a confirmation email when your order ships? I haven't received anything yet that I can see and just want to make sure I didn't miss it in my junk folder or something.

I am looking very forward to playing this.

If you buy the corebook bundle on NWA's webstore, does it also include complimentary PDF copies of the books? I don't yet have 3e. I still have 2e on my shelf currently.

The setting is very detailed on what it is it seems but leaves a bit that you can customize but overall it is pretty defined.

There is no particular relationship between the setting and the Hyborian Age, and in fact I would say Howard's overall influence on the setting is the weakest of any of the three Weird Tales authors*. It resembles Smith's Hyperborea (with some elements from Smith's Zothique) much more, but only in a very vague and general way. It's a pastiche, but - as Mr. Savage aptly notes - that just means it belongs to YOU now.
* - I would eyeball the author influences at about 40% Smith, 30% Lovecraft, 15% Howard (at most), and 15% other (Vance, etc.). The people who refer to it as "Conan the RPG" are pretty far off-base, in my opinion, and setting up a burden for the setting it was never intended to meet. For example, in my experience people have an exaggerated view of how rare and weak magic was in the Hyborian Age. But even to the extent that it was rare and weak in Howard's stories, the Hyperborea setting was clearly inspired more by the much more magical Smith settings. So complaining that the magic in AS&SH doesn't work like it does in the Conan stories (even assuming the critic does in fact have much knowledge of the Hyborian Age, which is not necessarily the case in my observation) is rather missing the point.

ETA: These are just my observations as a fan of the game and all three authors. I have no special knowledge of Jeff's intentions with the setting, other than what he's stated publically.

The boldened part is the part that has disturbed me.  I am first and foremost a Howard fan when it comes to sword & sorcery and expected this game to ooze that Howardian feeling but in the few sessions I have ran yet the setting just is not feeling like it to me.  It seems much more weird fantasy than Howardian sword & sorcery.  I am conflicted as to if I should keep pushing on with AS&SH or go back to Barbarians of Lemuria Mythic Edition or Beasts & Barbarians Steel Editio

Then he's thinking of the two phases as separate rounds, not one round. He gets to cast in a round, or fight in a round, he shouldn't get or be allowed to do both. Especially when you factor the concentration required for casting.

I agree completely.

I think it would be helpful, old school or not, to explain what is meant by this in either flavor text or mechanics.  Does binding wounds heal someone a little that has received HPs worth of damage but is still up and fighting? Or is it meant to stabilize someone that is down and in negative HPs and unconscious.  I do not feel it is necessarily against the old school mentality to at least have a base level of clarity on things of this nature.

I am pretty old school myself, btw, being 45 years old and having started with D&D in around 1982 or so.

I do believe I missed that phrase though about binding wounds on pg 261.

The game seems to imply in the section on actions in combat that an ally can bind wounds if he has bandages but I cannot seem to find a rule for how this works anywhere, not even in the section on death and dying.

How does this work and can it stabilize a dying character?
