Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Welcome back to daily encounters! In this episode, your players have traveled to the Red Desert, where miners often come to "unfortunate ends". (I think maybe that's also true of the non-red deserts.)

19 horses
6 hyaena-men
Lost
6 giant black centipedes
11 horses
6 hyaena-men
14 bactrian camels
17 dromedary camels
6 giant tuataras! (night only)
14 dromedary camels
22 bactrian camels
5 giant tuataras! (night only)
Mirage!

Those big lizards could be nasty...

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

A stampede of 22 spit-happy camels ain't no picnic either (wait... do camels stampede?).

They do everything else obnoxious, so probably. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/smile.png

Daily encounter time! In this installment, your players are traveling down the legendary River Leng. What awaits them there?

8 bird-men
6 giant pink centipedes
Hunting party of 9 bowmen and 8 dogs led by Tuwawi. They haven’t bagged any game.
Lights in the sky! No alien encounter follows.
Windstorm!
5 giant pink centipedes
1 giant weasel (only at night)
Snowstorm!
Snowstorm!
1 giant weasel (only at night)
12 giant rats
19 rats
Insect swarm!

A rather dreary place.

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

It's that time again: daily encounter! Now your players have set sail for "River Okeanos", the belt of deadly ocean that lies between mainland Hyperborea and the more remote islands. What will they encounter there?

Fog bank
Sleet storm
6 giant rats – coastal only, so no encounter
1 giant crocodile!
44 bats (coastal only, so no encounter)
4 crocodiles
1 giant crocodile!
Fulotha, Chaotic Evil merchant (2nd level thief) guarded by 17 crossbowmen and 16 halberdiers led by Ossargo (4th level fighter). 50,000 g.p. worth of trade goods on the ship!
40 lizard-men (coastal only, so no encounter)
1 killer whale
1 great white shark
1 colossal squid! Could easily be a random TPK!
10 giant bats (coastal only, so no encounter)

Pretty deadly!

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Welcome back to daily encounters! In today's episode, your players are drifting down the River Omo. What will they encounter there?

Fever
2 giant toads
14 giant rats
20 Neutral merchants (1st level thieves) guarded by 13 crossbowmen and 13 halberdiers led by Qarrullesta (12th level fighter!) 10,000 g.p. worth of trade goods on the barge.
98 bats (night only)
Sleet storm
Insect swarm!
1 giant tuatara (night only)
1 giant crab
10 giant rats
55 bats (night only)
1 giant weasel (night only)
Vermin (PC loses food and water!)

Another unpleasant place. Hyperborea is just full of garden spots!

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Daily encounter time! In this installment, your players are traveling down the River Vol, where two kinds of Kimmerians are fighting ape-men and each other. Will the PCs be caught in the middle? (Yes.)

31 Kimmerian light cavalry led by Demostrate, looking for Kimmeri-Kelts and other apes.
33 Kimmeri-Keltic light cavalry led by Sidheag, looking for Kimmerians and other apes.
Patrol of 18 light infantry ape-men of Kor led by Thoom (12th level fighter!) looking for members of the other two groups to kill.
Hunting of 10 Kimmeri-Keltic bowmen and 10 dogs, led by Xenia. They don’t have any game, but are more interested in killing apes anyway.
Hunting of 12 Kimmeri-Keltic bowmen and 17 dogs, led by Ariston. They haven’t bagged any game either (fighting between the three groups has probably scared it all away).
100 bats! (night only)
1 giant toad
Hunting of 11 Kimmeri-Keltic bowmen and 14 dogs, led by Ariston (the same group, with losses?). They don’t have any game.
4 falcons
1 giant tuatara (night only)
1 giant tuatara (night only)
1 crocodile
Patrol of 13 light infantry ape-men of Kor led by Toongrothroman (4th level fighter) still looking to kill anyone who is insufficiently hirsute.

Probably better to stay in parts of Hyperborea with only one type of Kimmerian... and no ape-men...

Hyperborean hunters are in luck then. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/wink.png

It's that time again: daily encounter! In this episode, your players are journeying down the River Yys, where Apollonians, degenerate Dagonites, and Esquimaux have territorial conflicts. Will the PCs get caught in the middle? (Probably.)

1 giant weasel (night only)
1 giant weasel (night only)
Hunting party of 14 fish-face degenerates and 7 dogs led by Istar. They haven’t bagged any game yet.
Hunting party of 11 fish-face degenerates and 13 dogs led by Tnendaim. They haven’t bagged any game either.
Hunting party of 12 Apollonians and 11 dogs led by Rellrennia. They also haven’t bagged any game.
96 bats! but only at night
Sleet storm
Stellar conjunction!
8 giant rats
Hunting party of 14 fish-face degenerates and 4 dogs led by Ossargo and accompanied by Ganos (9th level priest!) The power of prayer is proven yet again, as this party has bagged a falcon!
1 giant weasel (night only)
4 giant bees
Hunting party of 15 fish-face degenerates and 7 dogs led by Thandor. They have managed to bag 7 giant river rats for dinner!

I'm proud of myself for not making another "squeal like a pig" joke. (Oh, darn it!)

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Time for your daily encounter! Today your players are in the forests of the Savage Boreal Coast. I hear the half-blood Picts aren't as bad as the full-blooded ones...

15 vipers!
11 giant rats
7 giant chameleons!
2 black bears
2 giant toads
1 medium animal skeleton
2 black bears
Hunting party of 11 bowmen and 8 dogs led by Dis. They haven’t bagged any game.
17 aurochs
2 boars
War party of 39 bowmen led by Gooch and accompanied by X’aan (12th level shaman!) The Picts are luckily not using poisoned arrows.
17 vipers!
Hunting party of 18 bowmen and 9 dogs led by Ch’aak. They have bagged 14 vipers for dinner (not surprisingly, since there seem to be plenty of them).

I don't know if the Savage Coast Picts are as bad as the ones in Pictland, but the wildlife is no better.

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Welcome back to daily encounters! In this episode, your players have made landfall on Scythium, island of the Ixians. (Well, island of the Ixians that isn't IX - you know what I mean!)

Lost
14 aurochs
4 giant pink centipedes
Lost
2 giant tuataras (night only)
Insect swarm!
Snowstorm
Vermin (PC loses water)
3 giant komodo dragons!
12 giant ants!
19 vipers!
5 rattlesnakes!
Patrol of 14 Ixian light infantry led by Xorbas, looking for fools who don’t worship snakes.

Adventurers: they taste like chicken.

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

It's daily encounter time! This installment is another special one, as your players have journeyed to Sharath, the haunted land that is the site of the only Great Obelisk to stand on dry land. How bad will this be?

1 night-gaunt
5 medium animal skeletons
4 ape-men
Hellis (7th level Neutral necromancer) accompanied by 15 zombies
Dust devil!
Mirage!
Qarrdunnia (11th level Neutral scout!) but she doesn’t have a treasure map
Mirage!
Cloudburst! but no flash flood (I would make this black rain that sizzles as it hits the dust)
Sand pit – 10’ deep
3 rust monsters!
Dust devil!
1 night-gaunt

Darn it, no daemons! Better luck next time.

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Daily encounter time! Now your players have journeyed to the Skarag Coast, hold of the orcs. What will they meet there?

4 boars
6 giant bees!
4 hyaenas
Lost
10 giant rats
40 orcs!
8 giant black centipedes
3 boars
1 viper
1 giant chameleon
8 giant black centipedes
7 wild dogs
3 rust monsters!

Again with the giant black centipedes. Maybe the orcs keep them as livestock?

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Woo-hoo! It's daily encounter time! In this episode your players are crossing a glaciated portion of the Spiral Mountain Array (which doesn't narrow it down much). What will they encounter there?

2 giant ferrets
5 ape-men
5 mountain apes!
8 men of Leng!
20 cave-men
12 men of Leng!
Crevasse! 120 feet wide and 120 feet deep
3 winged carnivorous apes!
6 pterodactyls – volcanic only, so no encounter
Frostbite!
6 dire wolves
6 fomorians!
28 abominable snow-men!

Good lord! The Spiral Mountains are deadly. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/shocked.png

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Good day and welcome to daily encounters! Today your players have entered the Duchy of Stonebrook, the most superficially Greyhawkian region of Hyperborea. Will weird encounters belie this impression?

30 rats
Patrol of 15 light infantry Duke’s troops led by Qarrullesta (11th level fighter!) and accompanied by Zai (7th level magician)
Patrol of 14 light infantry Duke’s troops led by Dunntanna (3rd level fighter)
8 beggars – none are thieves and none know anything useful
Patrol of 16 light infantry Duke’s troops led by Qarrullesta the Tall (7th level fighter) and accompanied by Rellrennia (6th level magician). I guess the Duke employs a lot of magicians?
Cloudburst
6 drunks
7 bandits (thugs and muggers)
6 (more?) drunks
Fever
9 giant rats
Patrol of 11 light infantry Duke’s troops led by Black Dunntanna (8th level fighter)
Patrol of 14 light infantry Duke’s troops led by Raidalla (3rd level fighter). Looks like the Duke also likes (or trusts?) female patrol leaders.

Eh, not too weird.

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Time for your daily encounter! In this episode, your players are sailing the Striped Gulf over the subaqueous cities of the crab-men. Did they remember to pack their butter sauce?

Hunting party of 10 crab-kin led by Tuwawi. No dogs because they’re in an umiak. They haven’t bagged any game.
1 monstrous crab! Those rascally crab-men are to blame.
3 blue whales
2 giant crabs (I’m sensing a theme…)
2 narwhales
10 giant rats
Ghost ship! Cargo is rotted, but pay chest contains 5500 gold and 8 pieces of jewelry worth 750 g.p. each.
Vermin (PC lost food)
13 giant crabs!
Hunting party of 12 crab-kin led by Ulva. No dogs. They haven’t bagged any game.
Fog bank
6 crab-men!
Hunting party of 13 crab-kin led by Tuwawi the Shrimp-Eater. No dogs. They have bagged 2 crocodiles!

So there were definitely some crabs (and crab-men and crab-kin) there.

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Daily encounter time! In this installment, your players have arrived in the town of Swampgate. Who or what will they meet there?

1 giant chameleon
Vermin (PC lost food and water!)
1 bat (night only)
Korrxai (2nd level Lawful Good ranger)
Rhelesta (3rd level Neutral ranger)
1 domesticated aurochs
1 viper
Snowstorm
Patrol of 19 light infantry led by Rammdailia (5th level fighter)
Plague!
1 domesticated woolly mammoth
2 beggars – 1 knows something useful
Plague!

Seems like Swampgate badly needs sanitation, or something.

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

It's time once more for daily encounters! Today your players have shipwrecked on the dreaded islands of Thaumagorga's Teeth. There have to be some daemons here, right?

1 rust monster
7 pterodactyls
Sleet storm
Rockslide!
Rockslide!
Vermin (PC loses water!)
8 pterodactyls
Sleet storm
2 class II daemons! (YES!!!)
Fog bank
7 bird-men
7 pterodactyls
Insect swarm!

Not exactly Hyperborea's garden spot, is it?

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Welcome back to daily encounters! Today your players have made landfall on Thorgunna's Island, home of more of Hyperborea's justly renowned naked berserkers. How many will the PCs meet?

4 giant fire beetles (night only)
25 buck naked wild berserkers!
2 falcons
14 aurochs
1 viper
1 black bear
6 buck naked wild berserkers
3 cave-men (probably also buck naked)
1 buck naked wild berserker
1 buck naked wild berserker
3 buck naked wild berserkers
Sleet storm
28 buck naked wild berserkers!

So 64, I guess?

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Time for your daily encounter! Today the PCs have made port in Tinsaar, the former pirate city now under loose Amazon control. Who or what will they meet there?

Patrol of 17 light infantry mercenaries led by Renn (7th level fighter)
Patrol of 17 light infantry mercenaries led by Sammpenna (10th level fighter!) – just a change of officers?
Hermundr (7th level Chaotic Good barbarian)
21 domesticated reindeer
Fever
Indulbra (12th level Neutral magician!) accompanied by 6 5th level mercenary halberdiers and Ossargo (5th level apprentice magician)
Sandstorm (desert only, so no encounter!)
Snowstorm
Patrol of 13 light infantry mercenaries led by Zennquann (12th level fighter!)
7 drunks
Patrol of 14 light infantry mercenaries led by Qarrdunnia (3rd level fighter)
7 giant pink centipedes
Zai (9th level Chaotic Evil fighter!) accompanied by 5 5th level heavy infantry henchmen

Plenty of high-level NPCs on Tinsaar! I wonder what’s going on there? Maybe a revolt against the Amazons is being plotted?

Re: Hyperborean Encounter Tables!

Daily encounter time! In this installment, your players are in a forested area along the Trog Inlet, which is dominated by the ape-men of Kor. What will they meet there?

3 ape-men
1 ape-man
6 rats
Fog bank
2 giant toads
3 cave-men
Patrol of 17 light infantry ape-men of Kor led by Mibdin-Zabra (3rd level ape-fighter) and accompanied by Sippy (9th level ape-magician!)
10 giant rats
4 cave-men
1 ape-man
Insect swarm!
13 red deer
1 cave-man

"Ape-men and other unpleasant things" would seem to be the answer.
