I'm not gonna lie: it was really hard not to max out my credit card when I was completing the BackerKit.

If/when we ever move out to Vermont, I'm going to make this con part of my annual rotation!

  • Dark Druids by Rob Kuntz (d20/Troll Lord Games,

Those factions he wrote are pretty interesting. I had forgotten about this module, as there's a lot to work with for Hyperborea in this one.

I own that, but I must confess, I've never even looked through it. I should get around to do that one day. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/lol.png

Sorry, X2.

Castle Amber is a funhouse, but not over the top like Tegel Manor. It allows for significant amounts of player/NPC interaction, plenty of player decisions to be made, with a large amount of player dice rolls (ST's, feat and test rolls). The Castle itself it small enough to where it can be thoroughly explored in 2 or so sessions. The group I ran it for at Gamehole went through 2 of the 3 wings of the castle in 5.5 hours, and they didn't get to the small dungeon below.

I have Tegel Manor and want to use it at some point, but I'm also looking forward to Melan's Castle Xyntillan, a large dungeon which he hopes to release next year.

Tegel Manor is huge, and the randomness of it is cool at first, but it becomes something of a potential turn off after awhile. There's rooms in which the group encounters some nasty baddies that is a likely TPK, but in the very next room - three 4hp skeletons.
Something to note for anyone potentially running it, is that nearly the entire place is undead monsters. Some Ref's may not mind, for others, that's not their bag.

I have been meaning to buy this one. What do you like about it?

Which one, Castle Amber or Tegel Manor?

2. All of these adventures exist in my sandbox or are going to be triggered by events at some point. All of these can fit into Hyperborea with a minimum of effort and creativity.

  • DCC 84 Peril on the Purple Planet

I completely agree with this, as IMO, just about all DCC modules can be fit into Hyperborea. In fact, I've run something from #84 in Hyperborea and only needed to tweak a few minor items.

2. WGR1 Greyhawk Ruins. It's a serious take by TSR on Gary Gygax's Castle Greyhawk for 2nd Ed AD&D. There's some pretty cool stuff in there.

3. Village of Hommlet.

I'm having a cornish hen, a mashed potato, and cornbread!

Oh man, that hen sounds yummy!

We fixed up the traditional food, and substituted some small things: Sweet potatoes for mashed, brownies for pie, etc.

Next year we are talking about going a different route: Hen, pheasant, or possibly a ham if we are feeling a little lazy. Same goes for the sides.
I hope everyone had a good day, even the Lions, Redskins and Falcons fans!

Since the first evening of the con will be Halloween, I will be running TSR's classic i6 Ravenloft module via AS&SH. The game will start with the players entering into the castle (I'll be skipping the first half of the module since that takes 3 or so hours to get through), and we'll go as late as we need to see if Strahd or the PC's are victorious!

GameHole Con
Oct 31st - Nov 3rd, in Madison, WI.

A large, fun con, that features not only RPG's, but an extensive amount of boardgames, LARPing, True Dungeon etc. Very kid and family friendly for those who have that consideration when attending cons.

My recap:

Fantastic time, great to see familiar faces and friends. I came across a ton of new Hyperborea players, probably 12-16, and a few even backed the current KS after the games!
The five games I ran were a blast. My kill count made it up to 16 (yessss!), and it seemed everyone had fun. Four of the five games were ones that I had run previously at Gary Con, so it was enjoyable to see a new group try and face the challenges offered.
My fifth game was Moldvay's Castle Amber, run straight, using AS&SH rules. The game was an absolute blast for everyone, and it might have been the most fun I've ever had running a session. I was able to extensively taunt the party using an outrageous French accent, there was a boxing match, a troll under a bridge, a 5 course meal that got crazy, and a berserker who was cursed for the rest of his life to hold a 2 handed weapon in each hand.

I am very much looking forward to GameHole VII!

Gamehole was a fantastic time! As always it goes by too fast but it's great to catch up with friends and share gaming time together. For the sake of brevity, I'll only talk about AS&SOH events.

First off, I was in Francisca's Escape From Onja Cot adventure. We did well, defeating the mysterious wizard and I played a Viking Skald who defaced Onja's depictions of his deity. It was a good time and the whole group played well together and Rich graciously let us explore all around and provided a fun time for the duration of the event. I liked it!

Next, later that day I ran my Crow's Nest Upon Bleak Shores game. Ar'Pharazon played in that one and it was fun to have a forum member in that! They plowed through a fast paced adventure and even killed the "God of Eight", something my home campaign group ran from. I had a great group of players and one killer berserker who rolled some amazing damage scores. The team worked very well together and I was pleased with the results. Now, it's time to catch up on sleep, hahaha...

That was a fun game to play in. I especially loved some of the flavor detail you threw in, particularly how you played the crow priest. Thanks for running it!
