So it worked?

Yes, it works fine now. It opens a lot faster than the jpg too.

I can't wait to see this gorgeous map on paper and canvas! http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/love.png

Never mind - I see the maps now. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/shocked.png

The jpg map looks fantastic - can't wait to see it in canvas. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/love.png

FYI Jeff, the pdf map isn't opening for me. I get a message that says "Insufficient data for image". The problem might be on my end, but I wanted you to know in case there's a problem with the file.

I've only read the first hundred pages or so, but I flipped through the whole thing and it looks great! http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/love.png

Will there be a pdf of the new map at some point?

The cleric is quite an XP bargain IMO in every Old School edition of D&D. I think this just continues that proud tradition. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/smile.png

You are correct that I gave bird-men arms in my own campaign (and thus the ability to readily use weapons).

One can argue Picts produce berserkers but I imagine the Picts of Hyperborea to be more akin to the ones described in Beyond the Black River by Robert E. Howard. My question is, are there races in Hyperborea with a berserker culture besides Vikings, Kelts, and possibly Picts?

The "half-blood Picts" would appear to be inspired by the Hyborian Picts. The standard Picts would appear to be closer to the historical Picts, with maybe a nod toward Howard's Bran Mak Morn stories. Personally I find the usage "half-blood Picts" a little clumsy (sorry, Jeff!) so I use the terms "Black Picts" and "Red Picts" (referring to hair color) in my own game.

To speak to your larger question, my take is that only a few cultures (mainly the Vikings) produce berserkers in large numbers. But a few individuals of any race may become berserkers, and certainly any PC can. Just my way of handling it! http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/smile.png

If I were going to use a canned city for Port Zangerios, I would probably use Fever-Dreaming Marlinko.

http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/151165/FeverDreaming-Marlinko

It's very weird, and the city is divided into "themed" quarters that would go right along with the masks. So the inhabitants of the "Swine" quarter could favor pig masks, the inhabitants of the "Apiary" quarter insect masks, etc. There are some non-Hyperborean elements, but if desired these could easily be given facelifts - the Eld could be replaced with snake-men, the robo-dwarves with... I dunno, maybe gargoyle servitors or small iron automatons, and so forth. Every year the quarters have a competition where slave charioteers race and the losers are put to death, and it doesn't get much more Hyperborean than that. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/lol.png

The only problem is: Marlinko isn't a port (I know, just a "little" problem) so you would have to redo the map. Also, I don't think it's anywhere near as large as 20,000 inhabitants, although that would be easy to handwave. Anyway, just a suggestion. I recommend dropping a few bucks on it to steal ideas in any case. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/smile.png

May I recommend Midkemia Press's 'City of Carse' (available here for a very reasonable price in pdf form... http://www.midkemia.com/), used in conjunction with Ben Ball's 'Hyperborean Encounter Table's? I'm going to use the Carse supplement myself (it's totally Humanocentric ... perfect for AS&SH), and Ben's Encounter Tables are without compare ... utterly indispensable.

Aw, that's nice to hear. It makes all the hard work worth it. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/smile.png

Great picture! http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/love.png

Daily encounter time! In this episode, your players have entered the city of Yithorium, home of the dreaded Witch Queen of Ditto. What will they meet there?

30 slaves being taken to the mines, escorted by 17 light infantry brutal mercenary thugs working for the Witch Queen led by Ilcemor (12th level fighter!) Can the PCs do anything to help (and will they even care)?
1 riding horse
1 ghul! (and Yithorium is actually located in a desert) Could be a random TPK…
1 small animal skeleton
1 domesticated woolly mammoth
Patrol of 15 light infantry brutal mercenary thugs working for the Witch Queen led by Lustaivon (3rd level fighter). Probably looking for escaped slaves.
2 night-gaunts (man, Yithorium is a really fun city)
Sleet storm – doesn’t apply in the desert
2 gargoyles
Snowstorm – but not in a desert
Simpralleor (2nd level Chaotic Good cleric) accompanied by 3 1st level assistants and 7 mercenary light infantry. Probably trying to save the souls of the Queen’s depraved subjects.
Patrol of 17 medium infantry brutal mercenary thugs working for the Witch Queen led by Fulotha (2nd level fighter).
1 domesticated donkey

Ha ha I rolled a ghul! The Witch Queen sure knows how to put the F-U-N in "FUNgi from Yuggoth" (hey, you try making jokes about all of these). http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/cute.png

Time for your daily encounter! This time your players have made landfall on Xenadon, another island inhabited by a witch and her crazed servants - in this case renegade Amazons, although it seems they are (sadly) fully clothed. How many will your players meet?

1 black bear
21 aurochs
1 viper
11 giant ants!
Patrol of 18 renegade Amazon medium infantry led by Alexandra (4th level fighter) and accompanied by Artemisia (10th level magician!)
Violet lotus!
1 giant komodo dragon
Hunting party of 13 renegade Amazon archers and 18 dogs led by Theodosia. They haven’t taken any game.
Patrol of 18 renegade Amazon medium infantry led by Eudoxia (3rd level fighter). I guess the hunters tipped them off (if the PCs let any survive, that is).
11 giant frogs!
Hunting party of 20 renegade Amazon archers and 7 dogs led by Black Artemisia. They haven’t taken any game either.
Violet lotus!
Insect swarm!

Nasty spot. Meanwhile, we're up to the letter X - getting very close to the end!

Welcome back to daily encounters! In this installment, your players have entered the creepy cult village of Wold Phellora. Hey, what's with the octopus statue?

13 stirges!
1 viper
Patrol of 18 light infantry cultists led by Imbos (11th level fighter!)
Heat wave! But only in a desert, so no encounter.
1 intelligent, evil giant weasel (only at night)
Patrol of 19 light infantry cultists led by Sinuthaim (8th level fighter).
Patrol of 9 light infantry cultists led by Ganos (6th level fighter) and accompanied by Thulornos (5th level magician).
1 domesticated woolly mammoth
Sleet storm
1 riding horse
1 intelligent, evil giant weasel (only at night)
Heat wave! But only in a desert, so no encounter.
7 bird-men

The cult village definitely had some cultists. What nefarious plot do you suppose they're brewing with the bird-men?

Time for your daily encounter! Today your players are clambering around on a glaciated volcano on Ullr's Island. Which part of that is not a bad idea?

90 giant bats! (luckily only at night, but this could be a random TPK)
1 giant weasel (night only)
3 mountain apes!
Ash eruption! (could be another random TPK)
Geyser!
1 giant weasel – but only at night
1 giant weasel (only at night)
Fever (weasel fever, maybe?)
4 wolves
2 wolverines
5 mountain lions!
Meteor shower!
Poison gas! Luckily only “stinking cloud” strength.

Man, natural events on a volcano are a killer. And weirdly, no hunting parties on “Viking Hunting Island”. Maybe they knew about the impending eruption?
