Adding FA to the parry tactic...intriguing idea.

I would say a hit is a hit and that the ghoul's touch is in effect regardless of DR.

Now, having the DR be a bonus to the save *IF* there was no damage...I could abide that.

Oh, I know you meant the 2e weather stuff.

The NPC stuff is a bit more involved to code in a way that works they way I've already coded it.

Um. Um. UM!!!

How is it that I didn't know about these until today, gizmo? That's it. I am taking back the +0 sword I was going to give you in Wisconsin.

(Also, if you do the same with the weather tables in the appendix, all is forgiven.)

Glory Me, bloodbag but I did!

In the same thread as the announcement for the new version:

However, I think doing the weather tables is gonna be a lot easier that finishing up the work to pull in the appendices for BA's wonderful encounter tables (to fully flesh out all the parts you can hit in the tables...oi vey).

I doubt I'll get it down before Gary Con...but we'll see ;-)

Hyperborean Encounter Tables 2

By Ben Ball

munged for the web by gizmomathboy
Return to Encounters home
location: Hyperborean Sea
terrain: ocean
encounter:

Ixian Slavers A black-sailed carrack appears, blown by no natural wind and steering itself without a crew. Onboard is a level 9 Ixian necromancer (with standard equipment and spells per Appendix II, plus 5 doses of dust of paralysis), accompanied by either 20 0th-level Ixian light infantrymen with treasure class L or 19 zombies (50% chance of either). The necromancer casts disabling spells and employs dust of paralysis; meanwhile, his minions swarm the party's ship with intent to seize slaves (if the minions are zombies, they have been commanded not to bite the "merchandise"). Below decks on the slave ship are 50 shackled slaves of random racial stocks, possibly including some Ixian renegades being returned to Fazzuum for punishment.

So I'd say making up any system one wants for prevailing and shifting currents makes fine sense, with no need to pay much attention even to fake physics. Just decide what's most fun and put it in place. Whirlpools and icebergs are good entries on any event tables you might want to make. (Oh, hey, look at that).

Yeah, the one necromancer just had a squirrel and dog for his "familiars".

Necromancers get to make their own familiars so to speak.

However, if I was inclined to give a familiar to a necromancer I think the list is good with the caveat that Francisca noted. The vulture might be on the large size for a familiar but they do fit the mood :-)

Having the dwarf there didn't help the situation.

General Discussion » roll20 digital assets » 1/16/2019 10:27 am

I suppose this should also be an email to ghul, but...

I think I would pay for some icons of the images from the Bestiary. I'm thinking mostly to use on roll20.

A quick check of image sizes and it looks to go from about 280x280 up to about 600x600 pixels.

I have no clue what rights have been negotiated nor what it should cost.

I'm just saying I would pay for some. :-)

Yet Another Northwind Kickstarter I guess (and hope).

As I do I collect a bunch of gary con event data and mess with it.

You can get the full fire house at the Gary Con forums thread for that.

I thought I would pull out the Hyperborea specific stuff for here:

Rules Discussion » Weapon range based on WC » 1/03/2019 3:24 pm

The most charitable ruling would be that those distances are the maximum one could be away from an opponent and still be usable in melee.

A less charitable ruling would also add those are the minimum distances they could be used at.

Up to you which way you want to go.

I would apply some ruling my context. Have fun with that long pike or polearm in a 5 feet high by 5 feet wide passageway. :-)

I'll join the chorus of "I think it ain't broke so I ain't gonna fix it, but you do you".

I did a campaign that brought in the the Exceptional Strength modifiers from the Greyhawk Supplement, and I got to see first hand what a Berzerker with 18/00 STR can do. It's a lovely sight to behold. The party is/was very smart to quickly leave the "zone of crazy" when the PC goes berzerk. +4/+6 for "to hit"/damage bonus is a bit too for for Hyperborea.

I'm not saying don't add your flavor to your game, just account for how the game my shift once those things get added.

That's the generation of the index, it still really, really undersells the effort deciding what goes in the index.

Even with good software like LaTeX you still have to mark each instance of the word in the text (in LaTeX's case \index{word}). It isn't much different with something like MS Word. You still have to find and evaluate each instance of the word to see if makes sense to put it in the index and you have to do that every single time you edit the damn thing.

As mentioned at the link below you could automate the index creation (what I could do with some programs) is a concordance and not an index:

Indices are a tremendous pain in the but to do properly (see Shadowrun 5e for an example of a rather large, but ultimately useless index).

It's amazing how well edited Hyperborea is. I mean, must look at the errata thread for the 1st edition of Hyperborea. It's really not that bad.

http://hyperborea.boardhost.com/viewtopic.php?id=273

I haven't really scrutinized the current text but I would assume it's no worse and certainly much better as far as editing.

I think I could whip something up, but the hard part of an index what words to index?

How many pages would be too much? How many would be too little?

I would hate to think of the meetings between DMPrate and Ghul about the Players Manual Index. Now double that for the full text.
