Welp, I'm like 94% satisfied with my web app.

I finally have it spitting out the text from the various parts of Appendix I. I do some rolling but not all that I would like.

That last few things I would like to do are gonna be a bit of a pain to do, but I think we're worth it. ;-)

So go give it a spin and tell me where I've failed you. :-)

BA23 found a pile of typos and such.

I've corrected them.

I guess I should think about some tests for my code http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/shocked.png

Added code so that app will "roll" XdY stuff now.

Now the harder part, expanding stuff like:

encounter: Huntsman

encounter: Light Patrol (Apollonians)

I'm about 80% satisfied with them. There are improvements I would like to make but it does what I would like it to.

Bookmarked, thank you.

You're welcome. Now we just have to worry about keeping the site up :-)

Does this combine I & II?

It's only 2. I'm working under the assumption that 2 supersedes consumes and otherwise negates the existence of 1 :-)

There is also a etymological difference between Hyboria and Hyperborea. While I'm not sure of Hyboria I am sure of Hyperborea: Above the North Wind. Which if you look at the latitude of the map you can see that the furthest south is 18N. The bulk of the land mass is North of 60 degrees.

As others have written, Hyperborea is more beholden to CAS then REH for setting and vibe. I've only read a little bit of CAS and I can definitely see the influences.

My players prefer thieves and magic-users, because they bring the greatest amount of sheer utility (an above average chance for sneaking past things, alternate entrances opened through magic or being able to climb up/down with ease, various spell effects, etc.). However, the player who almost always goes for Legerdemainist now plays a Berserker, and he enjoys it very much!

Berzerkers are a lot of fun, so long as the party steps away just before things get really messy.

How else does one describe melee?

In recent years my players had a party comprised entirely of thieves, and it was quite a bit of fun. Of course, not all were pure thieves; we had purloiners and legerdemainists, too.

My current group tried that, all thief subclasses except for a lone ranger. They were TPK'd in their last session by fire beetles. I suspect it was a combination of bad rolls, being in "high level pc mode", and bad tactics.

We aren't quite done re-rolling pc's, but so far the 2 that have are a warlock and a ranger :-)

Since I wrote this, I guess this pretty much sums up what I do:

I also have a "DM Notes" notebook, and I have recorded the audio of about 99% of the sessions I've DM'd f2f.

General Discussion » Making stuff up on the spot » 4/30/2018 3:45 pm

I'm not sure I could do a "made up on the spot" dungeon for very long.

I did however do "random monster safari" a lot for one campaign. That was mostly because the party wanted to go from point A to very distant point B. Just used random encounter tables and ran it from there.

Always fun to read your notes for a room and it's:

temple, columns hide temple relics, dais has god
written on doors, "evil, don't enter"

Initially had the statue be Kthulu...read the gazetteer quickly and changed it to Thaumagorga.

Now the entry has the following added:

Statue of Thaumagorga
First statue on the left as you enter the room has a relic of a flaming sword (metal sword with copper to make it look like it's on fire)
Third column on the left, razor used in bloodletting
Third column on the right, copper bowl 2 foot wide, 8 inches deep. Reddish brown stain on the interior (old blood)
Last column on the left. Set of manacles with spikes on the interior

When they cast detect magic I just have the area appear to be consecrated and the relics "more" consecrated. Unlike the temple to MANN YOOD SUSUSHAI that was magical and had avatars of MANA jump out of the walls from the murals of MANA whenever they removed a ring or jeweled eye from the statues of MANA.

So of course they decided to pry the ruby eyes out of the statue. They did decide to leave the relics where they found them.

I love my reckless players so much. :-)

My players can do whatever I have time to prepare or make up on the spot.

I sometimes have "arcs" which are more "islands in the stream". I have ideas of stuff to do but no railroads for the most part. Some stuff will connect together and might make a coherent "story", but is up to pc actions and the rolls of the dice.

My bottom line is that any plan I make won't survive contact with the players, but I like to have some plans regardless.

By fire beetls of all things. The worms of ymir didn't help.

I guess the bloody mary I was drinking was an ill omen...not that I'll stop drinking them at sessions now. :-)

Well, until I run out of the tomato juice we canned last year.

I think the Hyperboreal high should last a few months then get jonesing for the next KS. Hopefully a players manual and maybe Chainsaw's stuff. At least I can remember any rumors or scuttlebutt beyond those.

But, hoorah! more modules to read!

Don't think I would. Not as useful. They might be able to get spells from it but can't really cast directly from it like a scroll.

Also, the spell book is its own reward. Assuming it has spells that the caster could read and use.
