why did we call them modules anyway?

It was originally a wargaming term (along with hit dice, hit points, saving throws... basically, 90% of what seems eccentric about D&D is explained by its wargaming roots). Anyway, in the context of D&D, they were "modules" because they were modular - you could use them in any campaign setting, or at least that was the original idea.

There was a lot of printed material in the 60s/70s referred to in modules, especially when it came to educational/training material.  It was always my assumption that D&D (and wargames before) adopted the term from that field, possibly from publisher sales staff referring to modular/supplemental printed material as "modules".   I don't have direct evidence of that, but it was always my assumption.

Forgive my ignorance, but is "Beasts & Cannibals" just the Kickstarter title for the two adventure modules, or will it be a separate product?

I think "Breasts and Cannabis" was deemed too worrying to Concerned Parents (TM), so he went with Beasts and Cannibals.

You can't.  You want to get to the M-U in the back of the enemy party, you fight through.  Specifically, if you enter an area where a melee is under way, you stop dead at the edge of the melee, and are now eligible to be attacked.   To me, a melee in AS&SH (and other old-school D&D versions) is a swirling cloud of flesh and steel, not a group of fixed points to navigate through, with or without miniatures.

Now, if you want to skirt around the edge of the melee, or try a an Extraordinary Test of DX to cartwheel through it (as described in the book), you may have a case with me, but I'll need to be convinced.  My answer will be situation dependent, and that's all you'll do that round.

I'd also rule that you cannot charge through a melee to get to that sorcerer in the back, as having to to dodge through the combatants it doesn't meet the "reasonably straight path" needed.

I'd have to consider how a mounted rider or a big creature might change my situational rulings.

Sounds cool!  I'll take descriptions if you have them.  I put them on the listing.

Thanks!

Here you go:

Thursday 10AM: Something Stinks in Lankhmar
Something always stinks in Lankhmar, but something out there is more wretched than usual. The gentry won't stand for this, and you an your plucky pals have been charged with rooting out the problem. This is an adventure set in Lankhmar, using the 2nd edition of the Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers RPG.

Friday 10AM: Raid on Spinecastle Keep, a Greyhawk adventure
CY 563: The Bone March has fallen to evil, excepting Spinecastle Keep, the ancestral home of the Marquis of Spinecastle the ruler of the Bone March. The Marquis and his family are besieged, and need to be extracted, as they hold vital information needed to combat the tyranny of the evil humanoid hordes and their plans to sack the surrounding kingdoms. Will you succeed in extracting the Marquis?

Naw.  Common everywhere.  Once everyone speaks the same language, everyone knows what one another actually thinks of each other.  That's when it hits the fan!

Well, with Chainsaw dropping out, I'll add two on-grid games of AS&SH.  I'll also step up and run off-grid games each night, in the suite.  It won't be Foolsgrave, but I'll kill your sorry asses with as much mirth as Chainsaw, with an added dosage of that "penchant for brutality" he mentioned.

I read the staff as being able to be used 1x/day per user of the staff, so each of the three clerics (lol, riiiiight) in the  party could use it 1x/day.

I would say a person can only benefit once per day.

This is the way the Staff of Healing works, and how the Staff of Curing in the 1e DMG works, so I lean this way.

The description of the staff of curing says, in part:
It is loaded with curative spells, though it can be used but once per person per day:
How do you interpret that?

Does this mean that any given cleric can only use one of the 4 functions once per day?  So if you have 3 Clerics in your party (yeah....riiiight), they can each use it once per day?

Or, any particular recipient of the powers of the staff may only receive one per day?
